The release of the compelling W+K Wayne Rooney poster for Nike has provoked much debate and controversy, in the UK and abroad. 'Patriotic or just offensive?' asked the Daily Mail.

'Rooney the 'Saviour' kicks off an unholy row' said the Independent. The Chicago Sun Times commented 'Nike ad crosses up Brits with testament to Rooney'.

And on the flipside of the serious debate, the iconic ad
has also prompted spoof imagery in the national press -
from a cartoon of Tony Blair in the Independent to a
naked, painted Sophie Anderton in the News of the
World. And the latest version to run....... a poster in
Liverpool Street station - a fruit brand has parodied
Nike's strapline - 'just juice it' using a banana instead of
a swoosh.

The ad, unveiled on 20th June, was devised by
creatives Chris Groom, Stuart Harkness and Guy
Featherstone. Account Director Julian Cheevers said:
'The passion and determination that comes out of the
ad captures the optimism and patriotism that the nation
loves to express during big tournaments such as the
World Cup'.
