W+ K London is collaborating with Emeco, to develop an online showroom which will build their brand, create strong relationships with architect & designer communities & ultimately sell their chairs.
This is W+K's first digital-only new business win. The introduction to Emeco was made as a result of W+K's relationship with Philippe Starck, who worked with the agency on a new hotel project for SBE in 2006 and who has designed a number of chairs for Emeco. The virtual showroom will go live in April 2007 to coincide with the opening of the highly regarded Milan furniture fair.
Emeco was founded in 1944 and has been the leading manufacturer of handcrafted aluminium chairs for over 60 years. The craftsmanship and utilitarian design have ensured its place in history as the biggest supplier of chairs to the U.S government for Navy submarines, warships, prisons and schools. In 1998, Gregg Buchbinder purchased Emeco and refocused the company from government contractor to the architect and designer community. From this point on, the aluminium chair company would become associated with such world-renowned designers as Frank Gehry and Sir Norman Foster.
Neil Christie, Managing Director, Wieden + Kennedy said: "We are delighted to have won our first digital-only client and to be working with Emeco, whose passion for craftsmanship and excellent design matches our own. Plus, we've now got some great chairs for the office."

Wieden + Kennedy London's first brand campaign for The Guardian breaks on Monday 12 March. This is the first brand advertising The Guardian has launched in almost a decade.
The colourful campaign aims to show The Guardian as more than just a newspaper and highlights the core values upon which it is founded. There are four executions in the initial burst, each one covering a different aspect of the Guardian's values. Further executions and a cinema campaign will follow later in the year. The use of bold colour and design reflects The Guardian itself, which offers colour on every page.
The campaign launches with posters on 2,200 buses across the UK and on 60 London taxis. The following week the campaign will be extended to Transvision screens at railway stations and poster sites on the London underground and at network rail stations.
Marketing Director at Guardian News & Media, Marc Sands said, "The media landscape has changed so much. There are so many new entrants in the media world we really need to say what it is the Guardian stands for again. In a restrained way, it brings the premise of the Guardian to life and amplifies the principles behind a great brand - it's a design classic. We want to speak to a new audience whether they are paper-based or internet-based."
